Spring brings our annual fundraiser at CCP!

All of us are aware of the major cuts to programs that help people in need of food and shelter.  Our Food Pantry has never been busier, and we are seeing new families each week, many of whom have never needed our services in the past.

Food bank funding has been frozen for over a year, so we are relying more than ever on local contributors like you to help us help others.  We know there are many organizations asking for your help. but please take a moment to consider all that the Church & Community Program provides for local families.

We are currently serving 220 families (500 individuals) every month, including children, senior citizens, disabled people and homeless individuals, and the numbers grow each month.  Our Thrift Shop has good quality clothing for those in need, and we round out our mission through our child-centered Back to School and Giving Tree programs.

Every dollar we receive is used to support local people.  There is only one Church & Community Program and we are here to help!

Your financial help is essential. Without it, we can’t distribute food to families in need in our community. You can send us cash or a check by mailing it to Church & Community Program, 30 Court Street, PO Box 55, Canton, NY 13617, or by dropping it off in person.  Or just click on the donate button above and skip the extra steps.

Any way you can help us, we thank you in advance, as do the neighbors we serve in your name.

What's happening here at 30 Court Street?

We're here because in 1974, the pastors of a group of Canton churches decided to form what became the Church & Community Program.  51 years later, here we are still, with the same mission and the same determination to fulfill it.

Just before Labor Day, our Back to School Program distributed new backpacks, required school supplies, a brand new pair of good quality sneakers, and even a free haircut, courtesy of Midtown Hair, to 240 children in 116 qualifying families, many more than last year. In December, our Giving Tree Program provided clothing, toy and food vouchers (plus a new pair of PJs) to 158 families with 371 children

We've just replaced the warm winter coats and sweaters of winter with the shorter sleeves and lighter fabrics of spring and summer in our Second Chance Thrift Shop.  Come by and get some great bargains to expand your spring wardrobe.

As we all know, food prices are high and many government programs have severely cut their assistance to people who need it.  Homelessness is on the rise in our home towns.  Our Food Pantry is, as always, leading the way to help our neighbors.

We need you more than ever as summer's longer days appear.  Please give as generously as you can to share food with community members in need and our homeless population. You can make a donation at our office here at 30 Court Street in Canton.  We welcome cash, checks or online donations using the donate button above.  Your help keeps us going, and without it we wouldn't be here.

If you'd like to help in other ways, you can give your time in any of our regular programs or join our team of volunteers by calling 315-386-3534 or sending an email to our director, Connie Jenkins at director@ccpcanton.org.  And our food pantry is always in need of non-perishable food and (in the summer) anything you can share from your garden.  Our thrift shop, which helps pay the rent, needs lightly-used or new clothing, preferably in season, shoes, hats, purses and jewelry.

Our Mission at the Church & Community Program

Since 1974, we've provided a way for neighbors to help neighbors in the Northern New York towns of Canton, Hermon, Clare, DeKalb, Lisbon and Russell, and the villages of Rensselaer Falls, Richville and Heuvelton.

The mission of the Church and Community Program is to provide food, clothing and other essentials to those in need, to offer referrals for additional assistance, and to do so with respect for those we serve.

We're located at 30 Court Street in Canton, NY. We welcome you to drop by if you need assistance, want to shop in our Second Chance Thrift Shop, or would simply like to get involved in helping people in your community.
